A young man from Nigeria comes to Germany – with big dreams but also with fears. Today he is a master painter and decorator in Braunschweig. His path was anything but easy.

A new beginning full of challenges

When Kingsley Odubo came to Germany, everything was new. A new environment, a new culture, and above all a new language. What was natural for others became a daily challenge for him: holding a conversation, understanding instructions, finding his way in class.

“Language was my biggest hurdle,” Kingsley recalls. “I was always afraid of making mistakes or not being understood.”

While many young people in Germany begin their training with confidence, Kingsley often felt insecure. He was afraid of failing – and that fear stayed with him for years.

Between doubt and perseverance

Despite all difficulties, Kingsley began an apprenticeship as a painter and decorator. He had a talent for the craft, and working with colors and tools gave him joy. But the uncertainty remained. At times, the fear grew so strong that he wanted to give up.

Looking back, he admits openly: “There were moments when I was close to quitting.”

But Kingsley persevered. He didn’t just want to fight for himself – he wanted to prove to others that he could make it. He received support from his trainers, who believed in him and encouraged him. That trust became a crucial driving force to keep going.

Master school – the next big step

After passing his journeyman’s exam, Kingsley dared to take the next step: master school. A path that once again brought new challenges. The material was demanding, the expectations high – and once again, language was a barrier.

“Master school was the hardest part for me. I was so afraid of not keeping up. But at the same time, I knew: if I make it through this, then I have truly proven something to myself.”

More than once Kingsley was tempted to quit. But he didn’t. Again, it was his determination – and the support of his teachers – that carried him through.

The master title – a milestone

In 2020, the time finally came: Kingsley proudly held his master’s certificate in his hands. A moment he had worked toward for a long time – against all doubts, fears, and obstacles.

“When I received my master’s title, I knew: all the effort was worth it. It was not just a degree, it was proof that with courage and perseverance you can achieve anything.”

For Kingsley, the master’s title is not only a personal achievement. It is a symbol that even great hurdles can be overcome if you have the courage to keep going.

Why Kingsley’s story inspires hope

Kingsley’s journey shows that success is never guaranteed. He had to fight for every step – understanding the language, passing the exams, enduring in difficult times.

But his story also shows: those who believe in themselves, who receive support, and who do not give up can achieve their goals.

This is exactly the experience Kingsley now wants to pass on. With his project “Color for People”, he wants to give young people in Nigeria the chance to receive vocational training. Because he knows how crucial education and craftsmanship are for a self-determined life.

A message to young people

Kingsley’s message is clear: “Don’t be afraid of mistakes. Be brave, even when it gets tough. And believe that you can succeed.”

His path to becoming a master painter was shaped by fear, courage, and perseverance – and that is exactly why today he is a role model for many.

Kingsley’s story is not just that of a young man who fulfilled his dream. It is a story of determination, trust, and the power of never giving up.
